NCMA is both a registered charity and a company
limited by guarantee. Most importantly it is a membership
association.
On a day-to-day level this means that NCMA:
- promotes childminding locally and nationally
- works with central government and the Welsh Assembly government
to make sure childminders' views are heard.
- produces and sells products tailored to our members' needs and
which help them do their jobs professionally. You can view these
products in our online shop (external link).
- invests any surpluses from our work back into
childminding.
- campaigns on issues that our members feel strongly about.
- seeks the views of members through our National Policy
Forum.
- offers essential services, such as public liability insurance,
underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc, and legal
representation tailored to members' needs.
- develops specialist training and quality assurance packages for
childminders and nannies.
- gives individual members help through our offices, free
information line and specialist helplines.
- provides a series of factsheets for members to help with running
their business.
- sets up innovative community projects, for example, to offer
services to teenage parents and children with special educational
and social needs
- supports and encourages childminding groups.
- offers corporate consultancy to local authorities and
other corporate partners interested in offering childcare and
family support services.
- monitors legislation and keeps childminders and nannies up to
date.
