Board

Lady teaching childNCMA’s Board of Trustees is made up of the Association’s Chair and at least 10 trustees.

Being a Board member is an important role because — as one of the Association’s trustees — Board members are responsible for things such as signing off NCMA’s accounts, deciding how to invest the Association’s money and making sure NCMA meets the Charity Commission’s requirements for charities. They are also the company directors and charity trustees of NCMA.

A minimum of five of the trustees are NCMA childminders or nannies, and the remaining five may come from a wide range of professional backgrounds. They must all have an interest in childcare and an understanding of business issues, such as finance, marketing or charity operations.

All of the Board members are volunteers and anybody in NCMA can apply to join the Board or suggest others who would make good Board members. The Board has appointed from amongst the trustees a Vice Chair, and a Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.

The Board takes advice and recommendations from the National Policy Forum on childcare issues, but has overall responsibility for the running of the Association.
