Join NCMA's Board
NCMA is recruiting
new Board members to help lead its commitment to supporting
children reach their full potential. If you think you have the
skills and experience, then NCMA wants to hear from you.
NCMA's Board governs the Association and oversees its work. It
is made up of a group of volunteers who together have a range of
different expertise including home-based childcare, finance,
business management, strategic planning and marketing.
Being a member of NCMA's Board is an exciting and rewarding
role. Among other things, as a trustee you will have the
opportunity to help NCMA achieve its vision – that every child
reaches their full potential, by:
- agreeing NCMA's direction and priorities
- supporting NCMA to continue to provide the services and support
valued by its members as well as other partners, children and their
families
- ensuring NCMA is run effectively as a charity.
Why should I get involved?
As well as being able to influence NCMA work in a variety of
ways, becoming a Board member will provide you with the opportunity
to:
- gain new experiences, by working with individuals from a wide
range of backgrounds
- gain new skills, by taking part in the Board's learning and
development programme.
What will be expected of me?
As a Board member, you will be expected to attend no more than
six Board meetings a year (normally held on a Saturday in NCMA's
offices in Bromley, Kent). In addition, you will be expected
to attend its Annual General Meeting each September (again on a
Saturday) and its Annual Conference each November (over a
weekend).
A trustee position is voluntary and has a maximum term of office
of six years. Trustees receive travel and subsistence
expenses for attending meetings and other activities they agree to
support. Any appointment to the Board is subject to an enhanced
Criminal Records Bureau check, the cost of which is covered by
NCMA.
Support and development
All new Board members are fully supported with an induction
meeting and will be given an information file that helps them
become familiar with their role.
In addition, all trustees take part in an evaluation process,
designed by trustees, to help identify both their individual and
collective learning and development needs. These needs are
used to inform the annual Board Development programme.
Board members also receive ongoing support from the Chair and
Vice Chair as well as advice and information from the Company
Secretary and NCMA staff.
