Vice President
David Lane
On leaving Cambridge, David Lane began his career with eight
years working in residential child care, mainly with young
offenders. After a period as a social work education adviser, when
he was involved in developing qualifying training for residential
workers, he moved into senior management in local authority social
services, spending ten years in Hillingdon as Assistant Director
and eight years in Wakefield as Director.
Since 1993 he has been an independent consultant, and among the
areas in which he has been involved, he has been Chair of the
Langley House Trust which serves ex-offenders, Vice President of
FICE, an international professional association for people who work
with children, an expert witness in cases concerning social work
and social care, the Editor of a web magazine concerning child
care, and Vice President of Leonard Cheshire - among other
things.
Following the publication of a Section 8 inquiry report he
wrote, in which he emphasised the need for childminders to receive
support and training, David was invited to be a Vice President of
NCMA, a position he has now held for more than 10 years.
