Commitment to equality and diversity

association’s commitment to the employment, training and career

Commitment to employee development
Everyone working at NCMA has different skills and career goals.
To nurture these, and support the ambitions of the association,
NCMA offers a comprehensive induction programme, followed by a wide
range of in-house and external learning and development
opportunities, as well as regular one-to-ones and performance
reviews. NCMA was the first early years charity to gain the
Investors in People standard.
Work-life balance
NCMA is committed to staff maintaining a balance between work
and home life, and
welcomes applications for job-share arrangements. In addition, all
staff have the right to request a modification to their working
arrangements to meet personal needs.
Generous annual leave entitlement
All full-time employees are entitled to 25 days’ annual leave,
and additional leave is awarded to staff who have completed over
three years’ service. Part-time staff (who work fewer than 36 hours
per week) receive a pro-rata allowance according to the number of
hours they work per week.
Confidential care
All staff and immediate members of their family have free access
to a 24-hour confidential counselling service, designed to help
individuals deal with a range of personal and general problems.
Group life assurance scheme
If a staff member dies while employed by NCMA, a life assurance
benefit of twice
their basic annual salary, plus any applicable allowances, is paid
to an appointed partner or family member.
Pension scheme
NCMA operates a Group Personal Pension Plan with an agreed
pension provider. All employees who join the scheme will receive an
employer contribution to the equivalent of six per cent of their
basic annual salary (plus any applicable allowances) to the plan on
a monthly basis.
Childcare vouchers
NCMA operates a childcare voucher scheme and the vouchers are
offered as a "salary sacrifice". Childcare vouchers can be used to
pay for registered or approved childcare and are exempt from both
tax and national insurance contributions for employees (up to the
first £50 per week or £217 per month).
Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
NCMA offers enhanced maternity pay to women with at least one
year’s continuous service (at the 11th week prior to the expected
week of childbirth). All eligible employees are entitled to two
weeks’paid paternity leave and NCMA will grant up to five working
days of this leave at full normal salary. The second week will be
paid at the current rate of statutory paternity pay. These benefits
also apply to staff members who adopt a child.
Occupational sick pay
There is a generous occupational sick pay scheme, related to
length of service.
Trade union recognition
NCMA recognises Unite trade union, the largest union in the UK
with over two million members.
Time off in lieu (TOIL)
Hours worked in excess of an employee’s contractual hours are
regarded as TOIL. Time off for accrued TOIL is granted in agreement
with the employee’s line manager.
Home-based employment
NCMA pays contractually home-based employees a home office
allowance of £800
per annum (pro-rata for part-time staff ) and provides them with
appropriate office equipment (e.g. computer, desk, telephone etc)
and a PO Box number for business matters.
Staff discounts
NCMA offers staff a range of discounts similar to those
negotiated for NCMA members.
