Holidays and sickness
Holidays
Parents will usually agree with the childminder a period of
annual holiday each year during which time the childminding service
will not be required.
Some registered childminders charge half fee for
parents/guardians’ holidays and half fee for their own time off.
Some charge full fee during parents holidays, but nothing during
their own time off.
Some charge full fee for both their own and parents time off but
do their best to coordinate time off so that parents/guardians only
pay for childcare once.
Some registered childminders and parents/guardians prefer to
negotiate a childminding rate which includes an element for paid
time off.
Sickness
There are times when either the childminder or your child will
be poorly and the childminding service won’t be available or
used.
If your child becomes ill while in the care of the childminder,
the childminder will contact you and ask you to come and collect
your child. Similarly, if your child has a notifiable infectious
disease, such as measles, chicken pox or rubella, you should keep
them at home to minimise the spread of infection. It’s a good idea
to tell your childminder if your child has shown any signs of being
unwell in the preceding 24 hours.
