Childcare registers
Unlike registered childminders (who tend to be
self-employed and work in their own homes), nannies do not have to
be registered or inspected. However, in order to become a member of
NCMA, a nanny must, in England, join the Ofsted
Childcare Register or, in Wales, the Childcare Approval
Scheme Wales.
This demonstrates to parents that a nanny’s
commitment to the care for children in a home-based setting to the
highest possible standards. It also allows parents to gain access
to the childcare element of working families tax credit.
