In May this year,
NCMA responded to the consultation into
proposals around collecting Early Years Foundation Stage
Profile (EYFSP) data. The official government response to
the consultation can now be accessed at: www.dcsf.gov.uk/consultations.
DCSF has reported that the the majority of respondents supported
the proposals and as a result the new Childcare (Provision of
Information About Young Children) Regulations 2009 include the
following:
- power for local authorities to collect EYFS Profile and
“contextual data” (date of birth, gender, postcode, ethnic group,
whether the child has special educational needs, and whether
English is not the child’s first language) from non-funded early
years providers should they wish to; and
- an express legal basis for voluntary sharing of individual
child information (such as scale point data) between early years
providers and their local authority.
The new Regulations came into force on 22 July 2009, and can be
accessed at: www.opsi.gov.uk
