New food guidelines
The first national guidelines to support nutrition in early
years settings have been launched by the School Food Trust. NCMA
has been involved with the development of these guidelines, and
childminders were consulted as well during their pilot stages.
The new Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines for Early Years
Settings in England help early years providers and practitioners in
England meet the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) welfare
requirement for the provision of healthy, balanced and nutritious
food and drink.
Following these guidelines will help providers and practitioners
meet the nutritional requirements of children aged 1 to 5 years
attending early years settings.
The practical support tools help practitioners understand and
use the food and drink guidelines. These support tools include
menus and recipes, self evaluation checklists and an early years
code of practice for food and drink.
The following publications can be downloaded for free or hard
copies can be ordered from the School Food Trust for the
special price of £20.00 for all three.
