New Ofsted consultation
Ofsted has launched a consultation on the way it registers and
inspects early years providers, following the recent review of the
Early Years Foundation Stage by Dame Clare Tickell. The changes
will coincide with the revised EYFS, which the Government intends
to publish in September.
The consultation is seeking views on proposals with regards the
following issues.
- Practitioners acting on minor matters related to the
requirements for registration that do not suggest any risks to
children
- The current arrangements for notice of inspections
- The availability of the self-evaluation form
- Changes to the inspection reports published on the Ofsted
website.
- The current inspection criteria for each Ofsted judgement
- The way Ofsted communicates with applicants and providers.
The proposals also take account of Ofsted's intention to stop
routinely issuing restrictions or conditions on registrations and
also the expectation for childminder applicants to apply for
registration only when they are confident that they know and
understand everything they need to do to meet requirements. This
includes completing training before registration.
Ofsted is also proposing changes to the way it investigates
concerns.
The closing date for the consultation is 6 April 2012.
