Christine Dale, a childminder from Stockport and member of NCMA has been awarded an MBE for her services to children and families.

Christine has been a childminder for 13 years and also came second in the Children's Stars Awards in 2006. Christine works with social services and families who have travelled to the UK from war-torn countries. Christine helps to them to apply for school places and tax credits for their children. She also works with an assistant and cares for up to six children under 5 at any one time.

Christine said: "I've known for four weeks but I wasn't allowed to tell anyone and had to fill in a form to say that I wanted to accept it. I got to tell everyone last Friday evening and I was photographed for the Manchester Evening News. The parents were so pleased for me when they found out. I've already put my new title on my business cards. I will carry on childminding. I am really pleased and bit outstanded really, I still don't know who nominated me!"

"I provided care in past for refugee children while their parents go to English lessons, at the moment I have a Care to Learn child who is just 1 year old."
