Coalition commitment to childcare welcome
The government has made a formal
commitment to provision of free early years entitlement with a
diverse range of providers - something welcomed by NCMA.
Ian Marratt, NCMA Interim Director of
Communications said:
"The coalition government’s commitment to
retaining the free entitlement to childcare, through a diverse
range of providers is positive.
"We see this as recognition that registered
childminders will be given equal opportunities to provide the free
entitlement to childcare. We look forward to working with the new
Department for Education and to receiving further details on
the future of early years services.
"We are pleased to see a commitment to
providing services for the most disadvantaged families and hope the
government will recognise the good work registered
childminders already do in supporting early intervention projects
through, for example, respite care and care for disabled
children in a culture of partnership working.
"As registered childminders are generally
self-employed they will also be relieved to see a commitment to
reducing regulatory burdens on running a small business. We hope
this will encourage more new registrations and go some way to
helping childminders to remain sustainable."
