High-quality childcare a top priority
NCMA has urged the new government to
continue to ensure all parents have access
to high-quality childcare.
Responding to the new coalition government
announcements, NCMA said: "We look forward to working
with Michael Gove and his team of ministers, to ensure all
children are supported to reach their full potential.
"A key element of this will be ensuring that progress is made
to widen the availability and increase the quality
of early years services which are crucial to improving
educational achievement and social mobility later in
life.
"We welcome the Conservative and Liberal
Democrat commitments to supporting parental choice. Genuine choice
can only be maintained by continued investment in the sector and
supporting different forms of childcare provision including
registered childminders and nannies.
"We recognise that the financial environment
will be challenging but urge the new government to take time to
assess the current legislative framework and funding arrangements
and to understand the positive impact quality childcare has on the
lives of children and families and on the wider economy."
