Emergency budget - NCMA's response

On Tuesday 22 June 2010 the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, delivered his Emergency Budget which set out tax breaks and tax cuts. He also announced the the date for the next Comprehensive Spending Review, which is due to take place on 20 October.

NCMA has urged the Government to use the next spending review to support registered childminders and nannies to remain a high-quality childcare choice.

Catherine Farrell and Liz Bayram, NCMA Joint Chief Executive, said:

"This budget will increase financial pressures on parents, registered childminders and nannies at a time when the sustainability of childcare providers is a real issue.

"It is vital that the Government uses the next Spending Review to support registered childminders and nannies to remain a high-quality childcare choice for working families.

"Childcare plays a vital role in supporting economic recovery, by enabling working parents to continue to work. Nannies and childminders can also help government achieve its goal of supporting lone parent families back into work, once their youngest child reaches school age."

Further details of the Budget are available on the HM Treasury website. They key points of interest to registered childminders are available here.
