Food in your setting

Childminders are being urged to share information about the food and drink they provide within their setting.

NCMA is one of the members of the Advisory Panel on Food and Nutrition in Early Years set up by the School Food Trust for the Department of Education and is ensuring childminders are represented on the panel.

The advisory panel has been set up to gather, develop and consider evidence on the need for revised guidance and/or standards on the provision of food and drink in early years settings, and on the implications of any changes it may recommend.

As a result of this the advisory panel will produce a set of recommendations to inform the wider, independent review of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which will begin in September 2010 so views of registered childminders are vital.

There will be a number of opportunities to get involved with the research gathering - and at the moment all practitioners can respond to a call from the advisory panel for examples of best practice, outlining details including how they plan menus as well as prepare and purchase food and drink.

The closing date to submit evidence is Friday 18 June and more information is available here (external link).
