Improve access to childcare

Following the launch of the Daycare Trust’s annual childcare costs survey, NCMA has responded calling for more help for parents in accessing high quality childcare.

Liz Bayram, Joint Chief Executive of NCMA, commented "It is concerning that many families are facing difficulties in finding affordable childcare, particularly those with disabled children or living in areas of deprivation. Evidence from our own membership survey shows that more than a third of registered childminders are trained to care for disabled children, and many have unwanted vacancies.

"NCMA would like to work in partnership with government on a solution to help match families with childcare that can meet the needs of children and help parents to take up work opportunities."

The Daycare Trust report also highlighted an above inflation increase in childcare costs up by 4.8 per cent for a child over 2 years old. There was also a lack of sufficiency, with some parents complaining they could not find adequate childcare in their area.
