Consultation on a revised EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) was recently reviewed by
Dame Clare Tickell, Chief Executive of Action for Children. The
Government has today launched a consultation on their proposed
changes to the EYFS.
The consultation document and a revised
version of the EYFS framework, reflecting Dame Clare's
recommendations, can be viewed here

Having considered Dame Clare's
recommendations, the Government's view is that:
- the EYFS has had a positive overall impact on children in early
years settings, has supported increased professionalism, and has
helped to raise standards
- it should be retained as a universal framework to enable the
sector to sustain momentum in driving up quality
- more needs to be done to identify children who need extra help,
and to secure multi-agency support; and
- some aspects of the EYFS are seen as overly-burdensome. To
address this, the EYFS should be simplified and made more
accessible.
Over the coming weeks, NCMA will be working
with members to put forward a strong response from the home-based
childcare sector. The closing date for the consultation is 30
September 2011. We would welcome your views on the proposed
framework, so please send any feedback to Tim Farrow. We are also
encouraging our members to
respond to the consultation directly.
The results of the consultation and the
Department's response will be published on the Department for
Education website in the autumn. The Government plans to make
available the new version of the EYFS from spring
2012. Subject to the necessary legal processes, the revised
EYFS will be delivered in settings from September 2012.
