Do you care for 4-year-olds?
NCMA Policy team (10/12/09)
The Department for Children, Schools and
Families (DCSF) is currently doing some work around implementing
the recommendations of the Rose Primary Curriculum Review which
looked at a number of issues.
One of the findings was that summer born
children are at a greater risk of poor outcomes than children born
earlier in the school year and as a result the government is
considering allowing more choice and flexibility in the start dates
for children entering primary school.
In order to do this, DCSF have asked how many
children aged 4 are currently being cared for by childminders in
England to assess accurately the impact this would have on
childcare providers.
To gather some statistics around this and
ensure that childminders' circumstances are taken into account with
any potential change, NCMA members based in
England were asked to complete a questionnaire.
