Free consultancy offer

NCMA is able to offer free consultancy to local authorities in England to help develop childminding strategies which help them meet their duties under the Childcare Act 2006.

The opportunity comes after NCMA was successful in securing funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families Grant Programme.

Marian Pearson, Director of Operations at NCMA said "We were delighted to receive this funding which will help us to support two days' free consultancy for every local authority in England. NCMA has led the way in tailored support for registered childminders as well helping to increase awareness of this childcare choice for families. We will tailor these consultancy sessions to the needs of every local authority.

"NCMA will also help local authorities who have not previously worked closely with registered childminders to see how home-based childcare can fit into a wider family strategy by working with key stakeholders."

The consultations will be focussed on four key themes:

  • supporting families to access the childcare they need
  • improving outcomes for children by developing a highly qualified home-based childcare workforce
  • narrowing the gap for disadvantaged and vulnerable families by raising the quality and scope of childminding practice and
  • promoting integrated working and childcare initiatives.

Further information about the free consultancy package is available from Marian Pearson, Director of Operations, email: marian.pearson@ncma.org.uk or telephone 0845 880 0044.
