New support for nannies

The first ever research by the Children’s Workforce Development Council, National Childminding Association (NCMA) and Voice the Union into the needs and aspirations of the nanny workforce, has found that nannies would value more support in childcare practice and want more professional recognition from the general public.

NCMA has responded to this request for help by providing a new membership package especially for nannies.

Jon Danks, Director of Membership and Professional Development at NCMA said:

“NCMA has used this joint research to tailor support to the needs of the nanny workforce. I was encouraged to read that having a Criminal Records Bureau check was seen as being of value to nannies. All nanny members of NCMA have registered with Ofsted in England or the CASW in Wales, which provides parents with extra reassurance and the ability to claim financial benefits for registered childcare.

“All nanny members will now receive a professional support package which we hope will be an attractive option for today’s career nanny.”

The brand new membership package for registered nannies provides them with::

  • A dedicated Nannyline
  • Tailored factsheets on employment support
  • Nanny legal line
  • Professional advice on delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage and general childcare issues
  • NCMAsaver - saving members money on their shopping
  • Public Liability Insurance
  • Bi-monthly professional magazine Who Minds?

A trial membership offer for new nannies means that a year’s membership and insurance with NCMA is just £59.99 until 31 March 2010. Further information is available from www.ncma.org.uk/nanny.
