Comprehensive spending review

Spending Review 2010 - Update

In June this year the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, MP, announced details of the Government's next Spending Review.

The Comprehensive Spending Review will set out Government spending plans for the years 2011-12 to 2014-15 and will be published on Wednesday 20 October 2010.

Government is currently engaging with stakeholders in order to involve those most affected by changes to public services. They are gathering written submissions and holding a series of events to discuss and debate various aspects of public spending.

NCMA habeen working to influence the review by outlining the work undertaken by the home-based childcare workforce and the vital support currently provided to families and local communities.

NCMA has demonstrated the contribution you make by giving real life examples of your work, including details related to giving children the best start in life, supporting disadvantaged children and supporting families back to work.

NCMA will continue to influence decision makers at the Department for Education (DfE), Treasury and other key departments over the coming month during the ongoing discussions about future Government spending.

Lobbying work

In futher lobbying work, NCMA will again be working hard at the annual political party conferences this year to ensure the views of registered childminders and nannies stay on the political agenda . A series of high profile events and meetings with key decision makers are planned.

NCMA is working in partnership with the Daycare Trust, National Day Nurseries Association, Pre-School Learning Alliance and 4Children to hold events at all the party conferences. These will facilitate a debate on childcare and what’s next for families and early years services. The discussion will focus on the issues of returning to work, family and parenting support, child poverty and the future of the early years sector.

You can keep up to date with progress by keeping an eye on these news pages of the NCMA website.
