EYFS review - have your say
The Department for
Education (DfE)
has today launched a 'call for evidence' which gives early
years providers and parents the opportunity to have their
say on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
This is part of the EYFS review which
is being led by Dame Clare Tickell, chief executive of the
children’s charity, Action for Children.
Have your say
NCMA will be submitting a response to the
Government and is encouraging
all registered childminders to respond and also to
highlight the consultation to the parents whose children who
attend your setting to ensure the home-based childcare workforce is
well represented in the discussion.
You can access the
consultation questions online here.
The review will cover four main
areas:
- scope of regulation – whether
there should be one single framework for all Early Years
providers.
- learning and development –
looking at the latest evidence about children’s development and
what is needed to give them the best start at school.
- assessment – whether young
children’s development should be formally assessed at a certain
age, and what this should cover.
- welfare – the minimum
standards to keep children safe and support their healthy
development.
Comments can be submitted until 30
September 2010 and a final
report on the EYFS review will be provided in spring 2011. The
Government will then consult on any proposed changes before they
take effect from September 2012.
Our elected forum of NCMA members
have said that they believe the EYFS should be kept as a
statutory requirement and this viewpoint will form the basis of the
NCMA response.
This is because registered
childminders are successfully delivering the
EYFS within their settings - and because it gives them the
ability to demonstrate to parents their professionalism and that
they are providing the same high-quality care and learning as other
registered providers.
Evidence from Ofsted inspections over the last two years supports this, as more registered
childminders than ever are achieving good or outstanding grades
under EYFS and we know that high-quality childcare
improves outcomes for all children, helping them reach
their full potential.
If you have any further questions
about responding to the consul
tation contact NCMA via
whominds@ncma.org.uk. We would also like to hear from you if you
decide to respond.
