NCMA childminders scoop award
A registered childminder from Southampton has
scooped the coveted Childminder of the Year 2010 award at the
Nursery World Awards
on Friday 24 September. The award was won by NCMA member,
Helen Dawkins.
Helen, who was judged Outstanding in her last
Ofsted inspection in 2008, was nominated for the award by the
parents of the children she cares for. Helen provides care for
children with severe medical needs and works with health
professionals to provide inclusive care. The award was
presented by Dan Rathbone, Advertising Manager at Nursery
World. Michael Underwood hosted the awards held at the
Lancaster Hotel in London.
Further NCMA members reached the finals, with
Cherry Forrester regional chair from Newcastle-upon-Tyne as ‘highly
commended’ for the work she does in championing childminding in her
local community and undertaking further professional development.
Christine Scott, NCMA member from Mansfield was also a
finalist.
Susanna Dawson, NCMA Chair and a Judge
on the panel for the Childminder of the Year category,
said:
“I am delighted that NCMA members were named
as finalists and winners of the Nursery World Childminder of the
Year award, highlighting the fantastic work that they, and
thousands of other home-based childcare providers, do to support
families. They can take great pride in the fact that they have been
recognised in this way. NCMA congratulates Helen, as well as all
the nominated childcare practitioners.”
