NCMA childminders scoop award

A registered childminder from Southampton has scooped the coveted Childminder of the Year 2010 award at the Nursery World Awards on Friday 24 September. The award was won by NCMA member, Helen Dawkins.

Helen, who was judged Outstanding in her last Ofsted inspection in 2008, was nominated for the award by the parents of the children she cares for. Helen provides care for children with severe medical needs and works with health professionals to provide inclusive care.  The award was presented by Dan Rathbone, Advertising Manager at Nursery World.  Michael Underwood hosted the awards held at the Lancaster Hotel in London.

Further NCMA members reached the finals, with Cherry Forrester regional chair from Newcastle-upon-Tyne as ‘highly commended’ for the work she does in championing childminding in her local community and undertaking further professional development. Christine Scott, NCMA member from Mansfield was also a finalist.

Susanna Dawson, NCMA Chair and a Judge on the panel for the Childminder of the Year category, said:

“I am delighted that NCMA members were named as finalists and winners of the Nursery World Childminder of the Year award, highlighting the fantastic work that they, and thousands of other home-based childcare providers, do to support families. They can take great pride in the fact that they have been recognised in this way. NCMA congratulates Helen, as well as all the nominated childcare practitioners.”
