Meet the new Education Select Committee
The membership of the Education Select Committee (formerly the
Children, Schools and Families Committee) has been
confirmed.
A select committee
shadows the government department and is made of MPs from across the political parties. It
has a broad remit to investigate the expenditure, administration and policy
of the department, holding inquiries into subjects and
reporting findings.
During the last Parliament, NCMA
submitted evidence to the committee during its inquiries into
Children's Centres and the Single Funding Formula.
Only the chair, Graham Stuart, was an MP before the election
this year.
The membership of the full Committee is as follows:
- Graham Stuart (Conservative, Beverley and Holderness) (Chair)
(former member of the Children, Schools and Families
Committee)
- Conor Burns (Conservative, Bournemouth West)
- Nic Dakin (Labour, Scunthorpe)
- Pat Glass (Labour, North West Durham)
- Damian Hinds (Conservative, East Hampshire)
- Liz Kendall (Labour, Leicester West)
- Charlotte Leslie (Conservative, Bristol North West)
- Ian Mearns (Labour, Gateshead)
- Tessa Munt (Liberal Democrat, Wells)
- Lisa Nandy (Labour, Wigan)
- Craig Whittaker (Conservative, Calder Valley)
Meet the MP
Do any of the MPs on the new committee represent your
area? If so, let us know here at NCMA and we may be
able to arrange for your MP to come and visit your childminding
setting.
Visits to childminding settings are really important for MPs -
it's how they can gain first-hand experience of the excellent - and
unique - work that registered childminders do.
If you'd like to host an MP visit in your
setting, contact Tim Farrow in the External
Relations team for more information.
