Regulations in Wales
Childminding and Day Care Regulations - Wales
The new Childminding and Day Care regulations
for Wales have now been approved by the National Assembly for
Wales.
NCMA Cymru worked closely with the Assembly
Government and partners throughout the summer consultation period,
to feed in the views of home-based childcare providers to the
process. The new Regulations are due to come into force in April
2011.
Catrin Fletcher, Director of NCMA Cymru
commented: "We welcome the fact that following the passing of the
Children and Families Measure in February 2010, the Assembly has
now been able to further update existing childcare legislation
applicable to Wales. The consultation, held by the government on
these new regulations this summer, allowed us to engage with
members and collect their views and this was vital in ensuring we
were speaking on behalf of the sector in Wales.
"Unfortunately, we feel that the new
regulations do not do enough to protect the safety and well being
of children and we have made this clear to Government.
"Along with other members of the sector, we
remain concerned that care provided between 6pm and 2am, care that
is under 2 hours in length and also care for children aged 8 and
over remain exempt from regulations.
"We hope that by raising these issues, we have
at least now started a dialogue and debate on where regulations
should apply and we will work with the Assembly Government and
those across the sector to ensure that childcare provision puts the
interests of children firmly at the centre."
