Accessing training

Whether you prefer face-to-face sessions or managing your own
learning via online training, NCMA has the training solution for
you.
The level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young
People's Workforce has been designed with flexibility in mind.
For most of the units that make up the full
diploma, candidates will be able to attend organised training
sessions as part of a group or learn individually via
e-learning.
Learning with others
The unit most relevant to new childminders and nannies is titled
"Understand how to set up a home-based childcare service". This
unit, also known as CYPOP5 offers four credits towards the full
diploma, and is the perfect introduction to running a home-based
childcare business*.
NCMA is an accredited study centre for CACHE, and it employs a
number of tutors to deliver training to childminders and nannies
around England and (from January 2011) Wales.
Many of the tutors are experienced childcare professionals
themselves, so you can be sure that they have plenty of experience
to back up their delivery. You’ll get to spend time training with
other childminders and nannies, and can draw on each other’s
expertise and experience as you progress through the course.
Childminding training courses are nothing like school! The
tutors encourage learners to progress in a relaxed and supportive
atmosphere, and your practical experience as a working childminder
will help you, too. The course is desgined to be a practical
introduction to running your new business, and you'll even be able
to to use your assignments in your future career.
Learning on your own
Distance or e-learning is great for those who want to study
at their own pace, or maybe are unable to travel to a centre for a
group session.
NCMA can offer you safeguarding training and introductory training
in home-based childcare.
When you register for e-learning with NCMA you'll receive a text
book to help you through the CYPOP5 course and have access to
online support. The online learner management system can help you
manage your learning effectively.

* Prospective childminders should contact their local authority
or Family Information Service to check which introductory
courses they approve as this may vary between areas.
