Training in England
Initial childminding training
NCMA provides introductory training in home-based
childcare through the unit "Understand how to set up a home
based childcare service". This is also known as CYPOP5 and is
NCMA's recommended preparatory course for prospective and new
childminders.
As well as being the ideal introductory course*, the unit will
help childminders start their training pathway. The unit is worth
four credits and is one of the optional units of the Diploma for
the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
The home-based unit is ideal for those just starting as
childminders as it covers all of the basics of starting a
childminding business.
Accessing the training
The course can be delivered in a face-to-face setting over a
number of sessions - ideal for groups of new and prospective
childminders in a local authority. NCMA can deliver the course on
behalf of local authorities. If you're a new childminder, you
should contact your local NCMA worker or your local
authority early years team to see if funding is available for the
training.
Individual learners can access CYPOP5 via e-learning, where they
can undertake the course at their own pace and at times that suit
them. The e-learning course costs around £190. This price includes
VAT and all registration and assessment charges. Simply call NCMA
on 0845 880 0044 to start your training.
No matter how the course is delivered, all learners receive a
textbook as part of their course package and will submit their
assignments electronically. All learners have access to extra
skills for life training as well.
